Make a Difference Award - FAQ

Make a Difference Award - FAQ

  1. Does my venture/project need to attain economic, social and environmental benefits?
No, you do not necessarily have to achieve positive changes on three counts. Your project/venture can attain positive benefits in one or more of the three aspects.
  2. Would we be eligible if we are not running a social enterprise?
The MaD Award is open to all organisations, entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs and students, not just social enterprises.
  3. Would we be penalized if we are doing a for-profit business?
We will not judge the entries on the basis of whether they are non-profit or for profit.
  4. Would we be eligible if we have more than 5 team members?
Yes, you will still be eligible but for the purpose of the MaD Award application, we only require information of up to 5 core team members.
  5. Would we be eligible if the majority of the team members are over 35?
We only set the age limit on the founder(s), who should have launched the project/venture at the age of 30 or below, and should be aged 35 or below at the time of entry.
  6. Would I be eligible if I run the project/venture entirely on my own?
The MaD Award encourages collaboration and team work. If you are a single proprietor, please show how you collaborate with external parties.
  7. How do you define ‘Asia’?
Please refer to the United Nations’ geoscheme for Asia:
    http://millenniumindicators.un.org/unsd/methods/m49/m49regin.htm
  8. Would we be eligible if we just have a prototype/a beta version or are running a pilot of our project/venture?
Yes, you will be eligible. But you will not be eligible if it is just a business plan.
  9. What do you mean by intrapreneurs?
Intrapreneurs are employees within a big company/ organization but who think and act like entrepreneurs. Intrapreneurs innovate and create value for the company/organization’s stakeholders.
  10. Shall we make our submission in English ?
We welcome submissions in either English or Chinese. But you may consider using English for your submission (in particular the executive summary) to ensure members of the MaD Community from different countries can understand your venture/project - in the event that your entry is selected as one of the finalists and posted for the online poll in December.
  11. Do we need to provide photos in our written submission?
You are welcomed to provide photos, graphs or other illustrations in your written submission. But your submission should still be contained within 5 pages.
  12. How can we describe the social impacts of our project/venture?
There are many ways to assess the social impact of a venture. You may make reference to the Impact Reporting & Investment Standards (http://iris.thegiin.org/), a common framework for describing the social and environmental performance of an organization.
  13. Is it compulsory to have a reference and a nominator?
It is necessary to provide a reference in the entry but we do not necessarily require a nominator.
  14. If we are shortlisted, how long will the interview be? And should all our team members be attending the interview?
The interview will be for 30 minutes. It will help the panel’s assessment if all the core team members can attend the interview.
  15. Why does the nominator have to be aged 30 or below?
We would like to encourage peer-to-peer nomination in the MaD Community. The nominator may be invited to attend the MaD Forum, the participants of which are aged 30 or below.
