Sorry, I know I am late.
Second sorry. I am really bad at typing chinese so this entry is in english.
umum…to me, creativity is one thing and turning that into an industry is another thing. Working in HK’s creative industry has always been a nightmare for practitioners. I would say this is more a structural problem. Being in finance, I still think what I am saying is well justified. HK depends much on its economy, or more exactly the financial industry. Finance can be innovative, but any variations are just a number game. This money-oriented atmosphere, which I am not assessing whether it is good or not, may not encourage the growth of creative industry. Okay, you may say, according to a formal definition, creative industry includes advertising, TV and publishing sectors, which the financial industry depends heavily on. However, what matters is the subject itself. When we have a concern on making a profit, or at least to break-even, then we have one more consideration when we exercise our creativity. In HK, everything is more ’set’ or paved. It is the atmosphere which hinders the development of HK’s cultural industry. And that may take decades or centuries to change. I have some Scandinavian friends who are still reading their first degree at the age of late twenties. I cant foresee HK people afford this in foreseeable future, I mean in general.
Maybe one day, when we finally don’t count how much creative industry contributes to our GDP to prove how successful we are, we will have a more prosperous future in that. Maybe, I dont know.
